A PIEL NUDA

Angela Fellow
A piel nuda: on the need for a poem

'The soul escapes through the mouth in words'
Jean-Luc Nancy

Everyone reacts to the stimuli of existence according to their own sensibility. This sensibility is shaped, refined, or hardened by the whims of life’s twists and turns. The artist in question belongs to that group of hyper-receptive individuals who choose to focus their attention on seemingly insignificant details, dedicating time and space to them. Who bothers to gather the fabric lint lodged in their lover’s navel each morning and turn it into art? Who pauses to consider the remnants of existence? Who clings to the question of what meaning this life might hold? And why is this body so vulnerable to the passage of time?

Seeking ontological answers within the presences that surround us—to the point of merging her own identity with that of a stone—Angela Fellow draws our attention to the symbolism of objects such as feathers, tree bark, or the rubble of her home. She also revives an artistic practice developed in the late 1950s by European artists known as *affichistes*—François Dufrêne, Mimmo Rotella, Jacques Villeglé, and Raymond Hains—who would tear fragments of posters from public spaces and assemble them within the privacy of their studios.

The works in this exhibition span a decade of practice, capturing moments, encounters, and shared intimacies experienced during a period of personal re-centering. From 2018 to 2021, Angela Fellow lived in Tallinn, Estonia. Here, she revisits that period by presenting a body of work conceived in Northern Europe, amidst a natural landscape and urban fabric vastly different from what we know in Mexico. Angela’s artistic approach is imbued with Romanticism, and her existential philosophical orientation is undeniable. The impermanence of beings and things fuels her reflection and her sense of wonder at a world in constant evolution.
