ANGELA FELLOW

BIO
Angela Ramírez Fellowes (1985), known as Angela Fellow, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Querétaro, Mexico, born to a Mexican father and a Canadian mother, a blend of cultures that permeates her work. It is said that she was born amidst the clamor of a flock of magpies, her first cry joining a polyphony of voices with the other.
She grew up at the feet of Mount Hercules, Querétaro, which she used to climb with her three siblings, returning from each expedition with pockets full of treasures; a practice she has since carried over into various other environments. At 18, she began traveling alone, filling her eyes and feet with the grand project of civilization. Perhaps this fascination led her to train as an architect and urban planner, or even to move to the shores of the Baltic Sea to further her education by pursuing a master's degree in Contemporary Art at the Estonian Academy of Arts. There, she discovered herself working together with matter and through diverse media, blurring the distinction between the human and the non-human, and yearning to expand the perception and value we assign to the world around us.
Her work—spanning material explorations, multimedia installations, visual poetry, performance art, sculpture and jewelry—has been exhibited in Mexico, Estonia, England, Finland, Lithuania, and Portugal. Interested in how art is produced and shared within a community, Fellow also explores the “event” as a form of contemporary art creating educational and community-based projects centered on co-creation and the revaluation of existing resources. Her artistic practice can therefore be summed up as a recognition from Fellow to Fellow.
Alongside her artistic practice, she collaborates periodically as an instructor at the School of Architecture, Art and Design at Tec de Monterrey and as architect and urban planner at Fellowes Studio.
